The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) said the second month of the current fiscal year continued to register guarded growth in air movements, particularly in international passenger travel.
This is as a result of many countries continuing to implement restrictive measures to control the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
In summary, the Month of August 2021 saw Jomo Kenyatta International Airport’s passenger throughput increase by 219.9% from the figure recorded in the same month in 2020 to hit 399,789 passengers.
According to KAA, Aircraft movement went up by 77.5% to record a movement of 6,531 aircraft over the same period, while the amount of cargo handled increased by 5.1% to stand at 26,582,390.0 Kgs recorded over the period under review. It should be noted however that this huge growth was largely on account of the adverse impact of the COVID19 pandemic in August 2020.
