Ethiopian Airlines Strengthens Africa – Europe Connectivity with Launch of New Service to Porto

Largest African carrier, ET has commenced flight services from its Addis Ababa hub to Porto, Portugal. The airline says “the inaugural flight departed from Addis Ababa Bole International Airport on July 2, 2025, following a vibrant launch ceremony attended by invited guests, dignitaries, and airline executives.”

Mr. Mesfin Tasew, Group CEO of Ethiopian Airlines Group said the launch of the new service flight to Porto, Portugal, opens “yet another link between Africa and Europe. This new route is beyond a connection between Addis Ababa and Porto. It is a bridge between Africa and Europe.”

ET says the service which will “operate four times a week with the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, making a single stop in Madrid, Spain” not only “opens a new gateway to Portugal but also strengthens Ethiopian’s position as the leading airline connecting Africa to key destinations worldwide.”

Porto is Portugal’s second largest city and a major cultural and economic center. Its historic center is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, making it an attractive destination for both leisure and business travelers.
